What We Do

At Maine Clean Communities, we connect people, partners, and projects to reduce petroleum use and advance clean transportation solutions across Maine. As part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities and Communities network, we support communities in transitioning to more sustainable, efficient, and equitable mobility options.

Our work spans a variety of programs and initiatives that help public agencies, businesses, and residents reduce emissions, save money, and improve access to cleaner transportation. Whether it's supporting electric vehicle adoption, planning smarter charging infrastructure, or decarbonizing marine transportation, we work to make clean transportation practical and possible across Maine.

We've recently purchased a 2024 Kia Niro EV for you to test out! The 2024 Kia Niro EV is fully electric with an EPA-estimated 239-mile range. If you’re interested in taking our Niro EV for a spin, email us! All you need is a valid driver's license and proof of insurance to participate in our free EV lending program. The EV is available for up to a week, and you can take it anywhere in Maine. Take it for a test drive and see how easy it would be to make the switch!

Email Jon Gagne at jgagne@gpcog.org with the subject line "GPCOG EV Availability" to coordinate your drive!
